Requisite Bishops Courses
Program Summary, Goals, and Costs
The National Christian Education Department of the Church of God Mountain Assembly has administrative oversight of the courses required by the CGMA Bylaws for ordination as a bishop. These courses include the Old and New Testament Surveys and CGMA History & Doctrine.
The goals of the Ordination Requirements Program are:

To enhance the student’s knowledge of the Word of God

To develop skills necessary for rightly dividing the Scripture

To prepare the minister to teach and defend Bible doctrine

To foster appreciation for the Assembly's heritage
Tuition generally cost $50 per course and scholarships or financial assistance may be available through a local church, district, or the National Christian Education Department.

Required Courses
The Board of Twelve Elders requires candidates to complete the following courses before appearing for examination for ordination as a bishop in the CGMA.
New Testament Survey
This course provides an overview of the entire New Testament, placing each book in its historical and theological context.
It is offered through in-person or online classes (periodically), asynchronously online, and correspondence curriculum.
Feel free to discuss these options with the National Christian Education Director to determine which is best for you.
If you have taken a course of this nature previously, you may also be eligible to take a mastery test to fulfill the ordination requirement.
Old Testament Survey
This course provides an overview of the entire Old Testament, placing each book in its historical and theological context.
It is offered through in-person or online classes (periodically), asynchronously online, and correspondence curriculum.

CGMA History & Doctrine
This course provides an overview of the historical development of the Church of God Mountain Assembly and the scriptural basis of its doctrinal statements with attention to its current polity and procedures. It is offered through in-person or online classes (periodically) and asynchronously online.
Elective Courses
The Center for Applied Learning and Leadership Education & Development may offer additional recommended courses from time to time to enhance the credentialed minister's effectiveness.
Biblical Exegesis
This course provides an introduction of exegesis using basic literary, grammatical, and historical tools and methods with attention to the ancient contexts of scripture.
CGMA Polity & Practice
This course provides an overview of the governmental structure of the Church of God Mountain Assembly in the local church and at the national and district level.
